How to enable small teams to live stream independently with confidence, whilst validating self-serve as a path to product-market-fit
Small to medium-sized event organisers need to live stream events to extend reach, meet audience expectations, and maximise event value.
However, they struggle to do this reliably due to technical complexity, lack of guidance, and high risk of failure during live events.
At the same time, Camthis relies on manual setup at every event, which limits how far the product can scale.
Five interviews. One consistent theme:
the biggest fear isn't learning the app it's having the confidence the stream won't fail when going live.
"Recorded all day only to find… only three short recordings." (Jens, local sports team manager)
“Indoor sports work well. Outdoor events get tricky with distance, zoom and internet.” (Bryan, sports app developer)
The existing onboarding flow had a fundamental problem: it assumed users already knew what they were doing.

Solution
The work spanned research, strategy, and design surfacing user insights, sharpening Camthis's positioning and value proposition, and culminating in a prototype tested with real users, alongside a clear metrics framework to measure whether self-serve onboarding was actually working.
Key Results
7 out of 10 gave 3+ on a scale of 1–5 to “how confident do you feel that you could run a real event using CamThis without help?”
Validate whether organisers can onboard without relying on human support. * Due to MVP test no assistance was not possible hence invalid result
At least 50% of organisers who complete onboarding choose to leave contact details or sign up for future use.
Recommendations
- 01Re-test without assistance. The next round should run unaided the current completion rate needs a valid baseline before any wider rollout.
- 02Build the rehearsal mode. Users' biggest fear is failing live, not learning the app. A practice flow is the highest-impact investment in user confidence.
- 03Narrow the go-to-market. Small sports events first clearest need, fewest barriers, most testable audience for self-serve onboarding.
- 04Instrument the free trial. As volume grows, Camthis needs visibility on conversion rates, trial behaviour, and potential misuse.
If self-serve onboarding works for this audience, it doesn't just solve a UX problem it becomes the mechanism through which Camthis finds product-market fit.
